The Director of the Institute of Geoenergy IG - FORTH, Nikos Pasadakis, spoke to NEA TV and journalist Lefteris Kourkoulos, following the restart of natural gas exploration activities in Greece and the need for these efforts to continue in a way that will allow the country to make use of its natural wealth.
What can our country hope to gain from these new exploration activities, and what can hydrocarbons offer us?
“Problems cannot be solved from one crisis to the next. We need stability; we need a strategy,” Mr. Pasadakis states in this interview, emphasizing that drilling should already be taking place now and that 6–7 years are required for exploration activities to progress and begin to yield results. He also expressed the hope that the state will consistently follow the path that is once again opening through geophysical surveys for natural gas, so that Greece can ultimately proceed to the utilization of this resource. Finally, referring to natural gas, Mr. Pasadakis stresses that: “If a country produces — and produces properly — what it has the capacity to produce, for example Norway, then it truly secures a high standard of living.”
