Chevron, Exploration Activities, the Environment and the Institute of Geoenergy

The Director of the Institute of Geoenergy (IG/FORTH), Professor Ioannis Gentekakis, spoke on the TV Creta programme Update about the latest developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, following the signing of the ministerial decision approving Chevron’s expression of interest for hydrocarbon exploration in the two offshore areas south of Crete, as well as about the role of the Institute of Geoenergy.

Reference was also made to the role of hydrocarbons in the global economy and in ensuring the energy security required for the modern way of life. It was emphasized that, on the path towards renewable energy sources, hydrocarbons, and natural gas in particular, can serve as the necessary “bridge” for the energy transition.
