The art exhibition on the theme Greening Dry Cleaning, which took place during Clean Expo 23 at the Peristeri Exhibition Center from February 11 to 12, 2023, was completed with great success.
This was an initiative of the project “Action for the reduction of single-use plastics in Greek dry cleaners GreeningDryCleaning, which is part of the programme “Natural Environment & Innovative Actions 2020”. The program is implemented by Horizon – Research, Technology and Innovation Centre, in collaboration with the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas, and is funded by the Green Fund.
The aim of this original group exhibition was for artists to contribute to raising awareness among businesses in the professional cleaning sector, as well as in society at large, about the dramatic impacts of the excessive use of single-use plastics, and to inspire new changes in consumer and business culture. The exhibition was introduced by Emeritus Professor and former Rector of the Athens School of Fine Arts, Panos Charalambous, in the presence of representatives from the business and academic communities and the Green Fund.
The exhibition featured works by students of the Athens School of Fine Arts, curated by visual artist Kaiti Barba. More information about the participants and their works is provided in the attached press release.
The works were developed on reusable fabric garment covers produced within the framework of the #GreeningDryCleaning project using the upcycling method, while also supporting vulnerable members of our society. The techniques applied by the artists were diverse and mixed, including ink, charcoal, digital prints and stamping, plant-based dyes, hair and threads, monotype, linoleum and embossed surfaces, acrylics, as well as the use of plastic and metal scrap, product packaging, worn-out/old garments, shoe polish, and more.
