Short CV

Dr. Vassilis Gaganis holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece, a MSc and a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from the Technical University of Crete. Currently he holds an Assistant Professor position at the National Technical University of Athens, School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering.

His research interests include applications of pattern recognition and machine learning methods for modeling reservoir engineering problems such as field PVT analyses, real and virtual multiphase flowmeters and downhole tools measurements. He has also been involved in the development of new computational methods for speeding up the solution of phase equilibrium problems and of flow simulation in porous media/pipelines, reservoir fluid behavior modelling using Equations of State, study of CO2 injection for EOR and CCUS projects, flow simulation and optimization in geothermal reservoirs and development of numerical methods for applications in chemometrics and in gas/liquid chromatography analyses.

Dr. Gaganis has provided consultancy work for many service and software companies in the oil & gas industry, among them Schlumberger, SiS, Kappa engineering and Petroleum Experts. He is the author of more than 70 journal and international conference papers in the upstream and downstream petroleum engineering as well as 4 book chapters. He holds one international patent and has been teaching petroleum engineering courses in various Universities. He has supervised more than 25 MSc and 5 PhD theses and he has served as reviewer for 10 journals.
