Sampling_Sicily

The second sampling expedition of the BLUEQ project was successfully carried out from 17 to 22 November 2025 in the Plemmirio Marine Protected Area (Plemmirio MPA), Sicily, with the participation and collaboration of several project partners.

It was a great pleasure for us to represent the Institute of GeoEnergy at booth B01 of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), during the three-day event held on 28–30 November 2025 in Heraklion, Crete.

The first sampling expedition of the BLUEQ Project at Falasarna Bay (Crete) has been successfully completed, marking an important step toward understanding Posidonia oceanica ecosystems and their role in blue carbon storage in the wider region.

In the 2025 bibliometric study by John P. A. Ioannidis of Stanford University, published on September 19, 2025, entitled “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators”, which evaluates and ranks scientists worldwide based on the international recognition and impact of their research work, members of the Institute of Geoenergy of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas are included.

Professor Dimitris Gournis, Deputy Director of the Institute of Geoenergy at FORTH and faculty member of the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Crete, has surpassed 10,000 citations to his research work.
