The Institute of Petroleum Research (IPR) participated actively in the 5th ENERGY TRANSITION SYMPOSIUM “Global and Local Perspectives”, which was held in Athens, between 30th September and 2nd October, 2020, organized by the Hellenic Association for Energy Economics (HAEE).
The given talk: A new pole for Sustainable Research and Innovation in the Eastern Mediterranean: The Institute of Petroleum Research (IPR) /Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) by Dr. Bellas, introduced the IPR, explained in detail its scope, to act as a center of excellence in the wider area, presented the existent laboratory facilities and tremendous opportunities under the current geopolitical context (particularly in the South of Crete), and its main research directions. In addition, following recent discoveries, the challenges for developing a sustainable energy land-based Port in Crete, which may serve as an East Mediterranean hub, were noted; a fact that could boost the development opportunities and potential of the Island.
